Use of the LigaSure in Cervicofacial Venous Malformation Excision

چکیده
Complete surgical excision of venous malformations (VMs) is frequently complicated by massive bleeding and nerve damage, particularly in the cervicofacial area. This report describes a novel technique for the resection of cervicofacial VMs using the LigaSure (Valleylab, Tyco International Healthcare, Boulder, CO) vessel sealing system. We report three cases of VM excision using this vessel sealing system, and recorded intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, operative time, and postoperative complications. In all cases employing the Ligasure, perioperative blood loss was less than 600 ml, no patients developed postoperative hematomas or other bleeding complications, and no patients developed a facial palsy even if the VM was located close to the facial nerve. LigaSure provides excellent hemostasis with few complications when used for cervicofacial VMs.

Massive Nasal Arterio-Venous Malformation (AVM) Excision and Reconstruction with Expanded Forehead Flap: A Case Report
Nasal arterio-venous malformations (AVM) are uncommon lesions. We present a rare case of huge, long standing AVM in the nasal area which was treated by angioembolization, followed by surgical excision and forehead flap reconstruction.
متن کاملForty-one cervicofacial vascular anomalies and their surgical treatment--retrospection and review.
INTRODUCTION Haemangiomas in children usually involute spontaneously and surgical treatment is exceptional. Vascular malformations do not regress spontaneously and resection may become necessary. We present a series of surgically treated face and neck vascular anomalies during a 9-year period, assessing the epidemiology, presenting signs and symptoms, diagnostic modalities, indications for surg...
متن کاملStrangling technique to treat large cervicofacial venous malformations: a preliminary report.
BACKGROUND Surgical removal of large cervicofacial venous malformations might be hampered by massive intraoperative bleeding. Moreover, these lesions often insinuate within normal surrounding tissue, making complete resection impossible without causing significant morbidity. METHODS Two patients affected by facial venous malformations nonresponsive to sclerotherapy underwent surgery. Bleeding...

PURPOSE To study cerebral developmental venous anomalies in patients with extensive venous malformations of the head and neck. METHODS All patients had undergone carotid angiography 10 to 15 years previously. Four-vessel cerebral angiography was carried out in 40 patients with venous malformations. All patients had a physical examination, 16 had CT, and 22 were examined with MR imaging. One p...

We describe a case of intramuscular vascular malformation with extensive ossification within the posterior compartment muscles of leg which grossly mimicked long bone leading to equinus deformity of foot. Phleboliths and calcifications are characteristic of vascular malformations, while massive ossification is rare. To our knowledge, no extensive ossified vascular malformation within the leg mu...
